Library Thing

I bought a lifetime membership to Library Thing today. If you are not familiar with it, it is a way to catalog your books and see who else has those books and get recommendations based on your library.
For a homeschool mom this can be an intimidating task but I figure by adding 10-20 books a day I should be done in sometime in 2010!

If you use Library Thing you can add me using my mjpuzzlemom name.

Books as comfort food…..

The question posed by Booking Through Thursday this week is ” What do you read for comfort when the world is crashing all around you? For this meme theBible doesn’t work. “

I have a few books/series I turn to… they include:

TH White’s The Once and Future King

J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit

Stephen Donaldson’s The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever” & “The Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant”

O.K. I am a sci-fi/fantasy buff!

I find that I can pick these up over and over again and get lost in them.

To participate in Booking Through Thursday, blog about your favorite books as comfort food and leave a comment HERE

"Gavin Goodfellow": Christian Action/Fantasy Novel

Gavin Goodfellow

Quietly, with heart racing like David’s must have been when he prepared to face Goliath, Gavin Goodfellow emerges from Burnt Swamp, ready to put on the armor of God and enter into spiritual battle.

This fantasy/mystery/adventure, written from a biblical perspective, is just as much fun to read as Harry Potter and the Chronicles of Narnia, but it packs a contemporary punch that has the potential to change lives and get kids into their Bibles. A great read for ages 11 and up, adults are enjoying it, too.

Ask your bookstore to order Book One of the Burnt Swamp Trilogy today (ISBN 978-1-886068-03-2)! Contact the author direct for autographed copies, limited edition hardback, student workbook, and teacher’s guide (candy.abbott@verizon.net)

If you find this worthy, please pass it on.

Booking Through Thursday – Harry Potter Edition

I found a book meme Booking Through Thursday
A weekly meme about (mostly) books and reading.

Okay, love him or loathe him, you’d have to live under a rock not to know that J.K. Rowling’s final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, comes out on Saturday…

Are you going to read it? Yes.. as soon as it gets here… I ordered late.

If so, right away? Or just, you know, eventually, when you get around to it? Are you attending any of the midnight parties? I will read it right away, then ds 11 will read it. No parties here.

And, for the record… what do you think? Will Harry survive the series? What are you most looking forward to? I think Harry will survive. I am looking forward to fully understanding Snape. Good guy or bad guy?
